Introduction

According to Localize, “A translation management system (TMS) is a project management application that can automate and streamline your localization workflow.” The translation management system has been a hot trend in the language industry since it helps to streamline the process, save human manual work, save costs and increase quality.

Phrase & Wordbee

Phrase and Wordbee are representatives of translation management systems.

Nimdzi indicates “Wordbee is an advanced Cloud-based translation management system with a developed invoicing & financials functionality. It’s vendor-independent and sells both to enterprise and LSP clients.”

Nimdzi defines Phrase as “a vendor-neutral provider on the market that offers a complete translation management solution and software localization platform for developers.”

Client – Louis Vuitton

In this project, the client, Louis Vuitton, one of the largest luxury brands, has various product lines. They are selling their products in 63 countries. Therefore, they have a strong demand on using a TMS. Louis Vuitton has several features when considering to choose a TMS:

  • Several Product Lines
  • Long History
  • Various Media Assets

Business Requirements

Based on their needs, seven business requirements are listed with different weights.

  1. Integrations
  2. Localization Workflow
  3. Translation Memory & Termbase
  4. Cost
  5. Customization
  6. User Friendly Interface
  7. Security

Here is a chart about how these requirements are broke down by stakeholders, how are they weighted, and how are they defined.

Evaluation & Selection

I evaluated these two TMS from these seven aspects, and here is how it goes. Check out this video to see the details.

Scorecard and Conlusion

A scorecard was generated based on the evaluation result. It was shown that Wordbee performs better considering our needs.

After the research, I decided to move on with Wordbee since it meets our key requirements.

A final critique is that this project is conducted by myself, so the result could be subjective. I have tried my best not to be biased and be professional during the evaluation process.
